Our Team

Our clients trust us with missions they have given their lives to, and we take that seriously. Meet the people behind the work and learn why we do it.

Founder & Principal Partner

Garrett Clawson

Garrett has spent more than a decade in the social sector and founded Benevolent Strategies in 2020 on a conviction that runs through everything the firm does: the organizations serving our most vulnerable neighbors deserve the same strategic and operational excellence as any enterprise, and the people funding that work deserve partners who help them steward it well.

His practice spans both sides of the giving table. Garrett advises generous families and giving collaboratives on strategy, governance, landscape research, and grantmaking infrastructure, including serving as collaboration manager for a multi-member Christian giving collaborative in Greater Austin. He also partners with mission-driven organizations across Central Texas on strategic planning, program design and evaluation, grant strategy, and operational systems. He has trained teams at more than twenty nonprofits, led planning engagements for ministries with budgets up to $40M, and helped clients secure more than $16M in grants and government contracts.

Garrett holds a master's degree in public affairs from The University of Texas at Austin, where he specialized in nonprofit management and strategy, and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).

Away from work, Garrett lives in Round Rock with his wife Kelly and their two young boys, Luke and James. Outside of work, Garrett and his family are active members of Redeemer Round Rock. In his free time, you can find him exploring new technology, watching the San Antonio Spurs, or reading C.S. Lewis in a quiet coffee shop.
